5/21/2023 0 Comments Litespeed web server compare![]() The #1 reason for me is the free LiteSpeed Cache plugin (compatible with only LS/OLS servers). What’s the real benefit of LiteSpeed/OpenLiteSpeed over NGINX? Caching dynamic requests, security features (that decrease resource drain from DDOS attacks), and more. LiteSpeed can do many things that produce faster end result in real-world use. LiteSpeed Enterprise (paid version) is maybe 3-5% faster at most. OpenLiteSpeed (free version) is like 1-2% faster at most. I’m a diehard LiteSpeed fan myself but don’t believe it’s that much faster. Difference so small you wouldn’t even notice.Īny other benchmarks showing LiteSpeed being 20-300% faster than NGINX are silly to me. But with caching, I’d say YES but only by a freaken hair.So is OpenLiteSpeed truly faster/better than NGINX? Initial slow response was quicker (OLS 106ms vs NGINX 137ms) and then the stable response was a tiny bit faster (OLS 65ms vs NGINX 67ms). But indeed, OLS is faster by a tiny tiny margin. The average is mostly affected by the slow initial response being averaged out. Both servers run virtually at the same speed once the cache kicks in after 2 seconds (~66ms per request). Don’t bother looking at average response times.NGINX (cached) vs OLS (cached) NGINX (cached) OLS (cached) Because nobody in their right mind would be serving 10k requests/min without caching. But realistically, this comparison doesn’t matter.I much prefer raw NGINX handling fewer requests at reasonable response (1sec) before crashing early, than OLS with slower initial response before trying to unsuccessfully handle more concurrent hits. OLS served 383 requests but averaged 9-sec for each, before failing in 16 seconds.NGINX served 150 requests and averaged 1-sec for each, before failing in 6 seconds.NGINX (un-cached) vs OLS (un-cached) NGINX (un-cached) OLS (un-cached) ![]()
5/20/2023 0 Comments Lego jurassic world dinosaurs![]() Traveller's Tales has a long history of working with the plastic bricks manufacturer, with their first LEGO-meets-cinematic-IP crossover being 2005's LEGO Star Wars. ![]() That's the studio behind the forthcoming LEGO Jurassic World game, due out on multiple platforms in June to coincide with the fourth movie in the series, the Chris Pratt-starring Jurassic World. And clearly Cheshire-based developer Traveller's Tales was paying attention. Naturally, playing as the dinosaur was the right way to see the game through. A point-and-click affair for Sega's Mega-CD actually dipped into Crichton's novel for narrative inspiration, whereas the Mega Drive's platforming take on the film's story gave the player the option to control a velociraptor (cinema-proportioned, rather than the real-life turkey sized sort) instead of Sam Neill's Dr. Some were pretty decent, given the frankly awful track record of movie-to-game conversions. ![]() Sit a kid down in front of it for the first time and their eyes go as wide as saucers, their mouth as open as Tim and Lex's own when face to face with the Park's resident T-Rex.īeing the 1990s, of course there were numerous video game takes on Jurassic Park, and its two sequels of 19. ![]() When Steven Spielberg's CGI-enhanced film adaptation of Michael Crichton's (considerably more violent) 1990 novel, a prehistoric spin on his own Westworld story, came out in 1993, I thought I was over my obsession with tyrannosaurs and ceratopsians. I'd grown up on 1988's The Land Before Time, the Dinobots from Transformers, and VHS recordings of Ray Harryhausen movies. And then Jurassic Park happened and became ground zero for a whole new wave of dinosaur madness. ![]() 5/20/2023 0 Comments The road not taken theme![]() ![]() The punch line, Orr reveals, is that the road “less traveled by” apparently wasn’t: worn down by passersby “really about the same,” both roads “that morning equally lay / In leaves no step had trodden black.” Take these lines literally, and the speaker’s sonorous conclusion-“I took the one less traveled by, / And that has made all the difference”-sounds less like measured stock-taking than an after-the-fact justification. Or you know its moves, its progression of steps forth and looks back, the way you half remember a joke: a man walks into a yellow wood, two roads diverge, he chooses “the one less traveled by,” that makes all the difference, America-brand individualism wins again. Orr says it anyway, finding the poem’s deep cultural seepage in Ford commercials, rap lyrics, journalistic clichés, “one of the foundational texts of modern self-help” ( The Road Less Traveled: A New Psychology of Love, Traditional Values and Spiritual Growth), and over four hundred books “on subjects ranging from political theory to the impending zombie apocalypse.” (Orr overlooks the prevalence of the phrase “the road less traveled” in America’s sex columns his arguments suffer accordingly.) Whether or not you’ve actively tried to memorize this poem, you likely have its best-known phrases stored in your vocabulary. Orr’s Frost evolves into an unmanageable poet, but he starts off as something simple: the author of “The Road Not Taken,” a poem whose ubiquity goes without saying. ![]() Orr has written the rare book on poetry that does not discriminate between audiences: newcomers and experts, Americans and Belgians, This Frost or the Other Frost, you or me or Orr. (This is Orr’s metaphor: in its introduction, Beautiful & Pointless analogizes modern poetry with Belgium, a beautiful and pointless country.)īut Orr’s new book is far subtler, stranger, and more subversive than his last, a how-to that admits defeat page after page, a manual for the uninitiated which never dumbs down or tidies up its unsettling suggestions. On face, The Road Not Taken looks like that earlier book, which performed a particular service for a particular audience: if you’ve always wanted to vacation to that foreign destination called Poetry, but simply don’t have the time, Orr’s travel guide will save you the trouble by condensing all that beautiful, pointless sightseeing into 200 pages. Orr is a pithy, pushy poetry columnist for the New York Times Book Review, and the author of one previous book, Beautiful & Pointless: A Guide to Modern Poetry (2011). The latest defense of Frost-the longest, most publicized, and most extravagantly subtitled to date-is David Orr’s The Road Not Taken: Finding America in the Poem Everyone Loves and Almost Everyone Gets Wrong. These corrective lenses have scandalized casual readers, but they utterly delighted Frost: when, at Frost’s eighty-fifth birthday dinner, Trilling shocked guests by toasting Frost as “a terrifying poet,” Frost responded with a thank-you note: “You made my birthday party a surprise party.” “The Other Frost” (to quote the title of a Jarrell essay) is not a populist, apparently patriotic bard, but a modernist whom you might call (depending on whose Frost you’re meeting) coy, playful, mischievous, malevolent, an unsparing skeptic (if not an atheist), or an unappeasable pessimist (if not a downright nihilist). He has also been our most defended poet: Frost’s respectable partisans, among them Lionel Trilling, Randall Jarrell, Joseph Brodsky, and Paul Muldoon, have insisted that we look more closely at the true Frost, a poet less lovely, more dark and deep, than the Frost we were taught to love. For a half century, Robert Frost has been the most unavoidable of American poets: the nation’s inaugural inaugural poet, laureate of swinging birches and snowy evenings, a fixture as essential to the middle-school classroom as the chalkboard. ![]() 5/20/2023 0 Comments Ffxi toau last mission![]() ![]() This achievement requires a lot of patience, dedication and some competent party members. ![]() Some due to weak game mechanics (Apkallu Seizure), some due to total randomness (Azure Ailments), some because you have to search endlessly (Promotion: Superior Private, Promotion: Corporal).
